Chandrashila

Chandrashila directly translates to "Moon Rock". It is the topmost point of the Chandranath Peak. On the same trek lies one of the Panch Kedar's temples Tugnath. It is one of the highest temples of Lord Shiva in the world and is in the same circuit as Kedarnath. Horses and ponies are available at Chopta for hire to take you to the top. Although not to the absolute top but till Tugnath Temple. After that one has to go on foot to reach Chandrashilla. Even though it is a steep ascent but at the end one is greeted by the marvelous panoramic views of the Himalayas. Some of the most scenic views are found on this trek especially with clouds coming down on the trek to greet you and give a feeling that you're traveling to a heavenly location. With the temple at the end, this whole feeling just becomes even more surreal. Come to this location and feel the serenity of this place and this out-of-world experience in real time. Trailhead for this particular trail lies by Chopta which can be reached by various different modes of transport such as buses, shared taxis, or even private vehicles. This region only closes up during the rainy season due to landslides and bad weather conditions.
